I don't know about you, but when it's time to be truly creative for me, one needs a little acoustical encouragement. Since the we all sort of share that bond, what are the artists/tracks that get y...

The BEST 20 minutes, 43 seconds you'll spend today, I promise.

WOW! Instead of dismissing this amazing T.E.D. video because it's told through the lens of classical music, I encourage you to embrace it for that very same reason. I would venture to say that you believe in the power of music to tell a story by awakening the feelings and emotions already within us; and no one explains this better than Benjamin Zander, known for his "charisma and unyielding energy -- and for his brilliant pre-concert talks". But this story… Continue

Inside Detroit

I found a very cool event on DetroitCity.com that I wanted to share: Experience the Brand: Live, Work and Play in the 'D' This walking tour of Downtown on July 9th at 12 AM will show you all the major landmarks, the new development and some of the great historical gems, too! It will take you inside a new loft development, visit the Book-Cadillac and reveal the best spots for a power lunch. Pre-purchase your tickets on our website at http://insidedetroit.org/schedule.html If you can make it,… Continue

In the eyes of a child

In the eyes of a child My first and fondest memories: 1. My introduction to dancing - 3 years old. Dancing with my older sisters, Anne and Michelle, in our underwear to Duran Duran's "Girls on Film", "Rio", "Hungry Like the Wolf" or anything by journey. Sometimes my mother would join in when we put on Earth, Wind, and Fire or Kool & The Gang. Armed with my colorful Wonder Woman underoos, I would make my very dramatic intro to every song by crouching behind the sofa and entering the stage w… Continue

Metro Detroit is STILL Looking Up

There is doom and gloom about not only the city but the region. Between scandalous governments, auto sales dropping 27% for some, there is plenty of negative energy out there. So let's pollute it with some positivity. First, heard from a friend over at the Russell Industrial Center that they're going to have another 80 creative spaces available in the next 30-45 days. It's raw, it's in an old factory, but for a lot of folks it's just right because you ba… Continue

More work with less effort...

So, I am sort of the jack-of-all trades at work. I am the director of tech support, the coordinator, the researcher, the everything really...... My office is a non-profit agency, and we receive many grants throughout the year, just so we can operate. Every grant has stipulations with them.... We need you to perform object X and compile the results for us and send us monthly reports. I have been doing data compilation on this one grant for 2 years now. I came across some rather disturbing infor… Continue

Numb

So, I work for WIC.... and deal with pregnant/postpartum women and kids from birth to 5 years old on a daily basis... I was told something that kind of shocked my today from a client. My client told me that now, apparently, it is standard for a hospital to NUMB the area where they are going to do any sort of injection. For example, if they have to put an IV in your arm, they numb the vein, and do the IV.... Is society so scared of feeling any sort of pain that they have to numb everything? Le… Continue

Narcissistic? Thanks, Sandwiches and Music

Ok, so I received 6 posts as of today on my previous blog post. I could say "a few" or "a couple" or whatever, but who would I be kidding. I am flattered that people found what I had to write interesting enough to comment on and I've never been one to shy away from attention so if I sat here pretending that I don't know EXACTLY how many people commented I wouldn't be "real" and that was the whole point of the last post, wasn't it? SO all in all, thanks for the comments, I apologize but you've cr… Continue

Back to Basics

I miss music. I miss writing, I miss the communion of bandmates, I miss that push to get decent gigs. I crave a good band. For the love of all that's good about Detroit Soul. I haven't played out in... two years if you include that Chris Jones show I did to a track to years ago. SEVEN years if you consider the presence of live instrumentation. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. WANTED: Great soul musicians. Any instrumentation. Any age. Master level skill. Contact Rib
